Challenge

ScottMadden conducted the build and launch of HR and payroll shared services for four diverse divisions of a large entertainment and broadcasting company. The company employed a wide range of employees, including a large number of talent or celebrities. HR managed all contracts and interfaced with legal to execute or update new agreements. 

Process

  • Developed a new shared services delivery model for HR and built detailed work scope for each of the model’s organizations
  • Created, tested, and implemented a governance model for the HR and payroll shared services organization, which included participants from finance, IT, and legal
  • Documented and redesigned processes to fit the new model
  • Built requirements for and designed a supporting technology suite and selected support technologies
  • Installed, configured, and tested technology software, including case management, knowledgebase, and document 
    management systems
  • Designed the organization, selected staff, and managed staff transitions
  • Created a change management plan and deployed initiatives for customers across the four businesses as well as internal HR and payroll staff
  • Developed and delivered training for all functions in HR and payroll
  • Conducted business simulation training before go-live
  • Conducted communications campaign leading up to and following go-live

  • Provided a convenient, one-stop shop for employees through the employee service center and streamlined HR and payroll administration
  • Removed administrative tasks from field HR and retrained HR generalists as consultants within the business units
  • Clarified HR roles and responsibilities and coordinated consistent, accurate answers to HR questions
