Challenge
A large vertically integrated utility with multiple business units sought an aims ai pilot focused on outage planning within its Generation organization to improve outage management planning. The existing process relied heavily on manual review of past outage data, spreadsheets, and siloed reports, making it difficult to identify performance trends, assess root causes of delays, and proactively plan upcoming outages. Inconsistent data access and the absence of advanced analytics created bottlenecks, limiting the ability to optimize schedules, resources, and budgets. Leadership partnered with ScottMadden to explore AI-enabled tools that could analyze historical outage performance, surface lessons learned, and deliver AI-driven insights for reducing network outages – all without committing to long, costly development cycles.

- Engaged with Generation leaders and planners to assess current processes, data sources, and challenges
- Facilitated a workshop to identify and prioritize AI opportunities, selecting outage performance analytics
- Collaborated with key stakeholders to identify critical features and identified specific data elements required to drive the development of the desired features, and scoped a plan to source the data
- Built a prototype solution with the critical features as part of the AIMS AI pilot
- Held review sessions with planners and engineers to refine analytics, visualizations, and reports
- Walked the security and infrastructure teams through the process to prepare for deployment to the production environment
