Energy supply in the United States is on the cusp of significant changes. Renewables offer one solution to a complex set of issues, providing a way to hedge the conventional supply portfolio, both geographically and by fuel source.  They also create real options.

Regulatory support for renewables is proliferating and increasing in scope. Renewable Portfolio Standards now apply to more than 40% of the U.S. load, one-third of the standards have been adopted increased in the past two years, and a Federal Renewable portfolio standard is becoming an increasing possibility.
