ScottMadden Interview FAQ

Interview FAQ

What are the phases of the recruiting process?

There are two phases of the recruiting process for business school applicants – on-campus interviews and final round interviews. On-campus interviews consist of one 45-minute behavioral interview and are coordinated  through the school’s Career Services office. Final round interviews are held at ScottMadden’s Atlanta or Raleigh offices and consist of a half-day of behavioral interviews and a presentation followed or preceded by lunch. Candidates are free to choose whichever office they prefer to visit for the final round.

How long does the interview process take?
On-campus interviews at each school are completed in one day, and invitations to participate in final round interviews at the firm’s offices are typically offered within two or three days of each visit. Depending on the timing of interviews at each business school, there may be 4-6 weeks between the first round and final round. Offers are typically made within a week after final round interviews are completed.

What type of interviews should I expect?
Interviews are behavioral in nature and are designed to test a set of competencies the firm considers essential for success. You will be asked to discuss specific instances when you have demonstrated  these skills. Interest in ScottMadden and fit with the firm’s culture will also play an important role in the decision process. Most interviews will consist of the applicant and one or two ScottMadden consultants. At the final round call backs, candidates will be asked to prepare and deliver a presentation, typically about their summer internship experience.

Do you use case studies?
No, we do not use case studies per se. There may be situations where an interviewer will ask theoretical questions about prior experiences, however. In lieu of case studies, candidates are typically required to give a 45-minute presentation on a topic of their choice during the final round.

What is the best way to prepare?
A clear and concise understanding of your resume and prior experience is essential to a successful interview. Knowledge of ScottMadden and its businesses is important as well. In addition to our evaluation, interviews also provide an opportunity for you as a candidate to get to know our firm. There will be ample opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have.

How long before I can expect a decision?
Offers are typically made within one week of final round interviews.
