April 29, 2016 | 1:00 – 2:00 PM EDT

Complimentary Webcast

ScottMadden is pleased to join forces with Energy Central to present an interactive webinar, “ScottMadden’s Energy Industry Update – Neither Fish nor Fowl,” on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 1:00-2:00 PM EDT. This free webcast will be based on ScottMadden’s upcoming Energy Industry Update, featuring inside views of recent significant events and emerging trends and received by more than 10,000 industry leaders.

During the webcast, ScottMadden’s energy industry experts will share their views and field questions related to the energy transitions in Texas and Hawaii and cybersecurity information technology (IT)/operational technology (OT). Stuart Pearman, partner and energy practice leader at ScottMadden, will serve as moderator.

Topics of Discussion:

Securing the Utility: A Converged Cybersecurity Program Is Required

The recent Ukrainian Power outage demonstrated how a cyber attack on an electric utility might unfold. The attack targeted the utility’s operational technology, including the operator’s ability to monitor power flow. This demonstrates the utility’s need to include OT/IT within their enterprise cybersecurity programs. During this section, Jon Kerner, partner and practice leader, will address:

  • Why is a converged cybersecurity program important?
  • What are the challenges to a converged program?
  • How do you implement a converged cybersecurity program?

Jon Kerner, Partner and Information Technology Practice Leader, ScottMadden

Solar Power Generation: Important Lessons for Electric Utilities from Hawaii and Texas

ScottMadden partnered with the Solar Electric Power Association to lead utility industry executives on “fact-finding missions” to Hawaii and Texas with the goal of taking away important lessons for the broader energy industry. During this section, Marc Miller and John Pang, partners at ScottMadden, will address:

  • How can utilities anticipate and respond to evolving customer interest in distributed energy resources (DERs)?
  • What operational lessons can be learned from Hawaii’s experience with DERs?
  • Why have municipal and cooperative utilities in Texas led the way in solar development?

Marc Miller, Partner and Public Power and Electric Cooperatives Practice Leader, ScottMadden

John Pang, Partner, ScottMadden

During this 60-minute webcast, ScottMadden’s industry experts will share their views and field your questions. This is a great opportunity to take a step back and consider what is happening, what it means, and where our industry is headed.

Additionally, all registered attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the latest Energy Industry Update.
