Walter W. Simpson, III, Partner
Walt Simpson is a partner with functional expertise in shared services, strategic and business planning, financial, information and work management systems, and organization analysis and design. Prior to joining ScottMadden in 1994, Mr. Simpson was manager of nuclear business operations for Carolina Power & Light Company (now Progress Energy). During his tenure with the utility company, he also served as manager of control and administration for the Brunswick Nuclear Plant, manager of management services, manager of financial planning, and budget director. Mr. Simpson earned a B.S. in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.B.A from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
Recent Assignments
- Redesigned the U.S. accounting organization of a top building products manufacturer by centralizing transaction work into a shared service center and by moving decision support and analysis work into business unit service centers
- Designed the business planning process for the energy delivery unit of a large, integrated electric and gas utility
- Designed and implemented a methodology and system to track savings from supply chain initiatives to the budget centers realizing the benefits
- Redesigned the global accounting organization of a top communications equipment supplier to establish a shared service center in each global theater of operations, reducing headcount and streamlining the management structure
- Designed and administered an internal customer satisfaction survey for a multi-function shared services organization
- Designed and implemented a shared services costing model for an accounting service center of a large sports and entertainment company
- Performed a strategic review and best practices benchmarking study of an electric utility's shared services management processes
- Developed a shared services implementation plan for the worldwide IT organization of an international energy company. The plan included service definition and pricing, cost tracking and billing, balanced scorecard, and service level agreements
- Developed a corporate planning and performance management process for a municipally-owned combination electric, gas and water utility
