Trey Robinson

Director

T. L. “Trey” Robinson, III is a business strategist and financial leader with 12 years experience creating and implementing strategies, leading major corporate initiatives, and improving profitability for client companies.  He has interacted with corporate directors and officers of domestic and global companies covering a broad range of energy, retail, business services, software, and manufacturing industries.  Trey holds an M.B.A. from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University and a B.S. in chemical engineering with a minor in economics from North Carolina State University.  Prior to joining ScottMadden, he was employed as a senior manager at BearingPoint.

Recent Assignments
  • Directed a large-scale financial transformation at a $3 billion business services company.  Maintained direct oversight of the design, development, and implementation of all transformation initiatives.  Major efforts included sweeping process enhancements in all finance functions, including contract management, time and expense, payroll, fixed assets, accounts receivable, and accounts payable, and the creation and deployment of six supporting software applications
  • Led the design of an enhanced service delivery model for IT shared services at a $10 billion chemical company.  Designed a shared services governance model, including an advisory council and business unit liaisons.  Authored service definitions, constructed a costing model, and developed a pricing methodology to be used for charge-backs to business units
  • Advised a $2 billion professional services firm on the design and creation of a global financial support organization.  Led organization design sessions, provided industry leading practices, and developed a staffing model for a cost efficient, customer-oriented support organization
  • Led an organizational benchmarking assessment for the real estate and facilities function at a $19 billion electric utility.  Documented common organizational models, trends, and industry considerations based on interviews with 15 companies.  Recommended an improved real estate and facilities organizational model supported by a business case and implementation plan
  • Managed an assessment of the IT organization at a $1 billion electric cooperative and advised on the implementation of key recommendations.  Conducted a comprehensive review of the IT organization and all supporting processes. Recommended improvements to overall governance, IT strategy, budgeting and planning, and performance measurement
  • Directed a labor cost and productivity study for a $9 billion public utility.  Identified and documented strategic and tactical leading practices from over 25 external companies across categories including workforce strategy, work management, sourcing, organizational management, and performance management
  • Led an assessment of financial systems at a $3 billion global security services company in support of an outsourcing evaluation.  Identified existing and planned financial applications, determined implications to outsourcing strategies, and created a multi-year financial technology roadmap
  • Directed a financial initiative supporting a “store of the future” strategy for a $10 billion wireless provider.  The proposed design was supported by multi-year operating and capital budgets, monthly forecasts, resource requirements, a detailed implementation plan, and an ROI analysis
