John Pang

Director

John Pang has over 10 years of consulting experience working in the energy, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and financial industries.  John specializes in strategy planning and change management with a focus on business planning within electric utilities.  Prior to joining ScottMadden, John was a consultant and country manager for AsiaWorks Corporate Division in Hong Kong, where he partnered with organizations to create personal growth and development strategies and implement high-impact change management solutions.  John has facilitated leadership workshops and team building sessions around the world, in 15 countries for over 40 different multi-national companies.  He has published academic research in international journals, dealing with memory and cognition and human performance.  John received a B.S. from the University of Guelph, an M.A. in experimental psychology from York University and an M.B.A. from Duke University.

Recent Assignments
  • Designed and developed the strategic and business planning program for a large Canadian utility.  Delivered and facilitated a series of key stakeholder sessions to gather executive input and ensure management understanding and support of the plan.  Assessed, redesigned and implemented a new capital project review and prioritization process to allow for selection of initiatives to be included in the business plan
  • Designed and facilitated a series of key stakeholder workshops for the management team of an international consumer products company adjusting their corporate strategy and approach
  • Developed and implemented the change management program for a world-class utility going through an outsourcing process
  • Developed and facilitated a series of high energy, motivational team building workshops for the senior management and leadership of two nuclear operating stations.  Workshops explored the power of win/win strategies and reinforced the critical elements of effective team work, including open communication and break through thinking
  • Implemented a global change management and leadership initiative for a large telecommunications vendor.  Facilitated a high-impact development program, focusing on personal leadership and responsibility in four different continents
  • Developed and implemented a gap-based business planning program for a fleet of 11 fossil generating plants in the Southeastern United States
  • Developed the process maps for a real estate group managing a worldwide portfolio of office, warehouse and research space
  • Managed the design, construction and occupation of a new $17 million, 40,000 sq ft operations control center for an electric utility.  Developed the overall facilities strategy and additional head office building requirements
  • Served as the project controller for a $40 million project to transition control of transmission assets from the incumbent utility to an independent transmission company.   Designed and implemented project controls and documentation necessary for budgeting, variance analysis, project cash flow projections, and management reporting
