Scott Wilson

Partner

Scott Wilson has more than 18 years of business and management consulting experience, including corporate strategy, strategic market development, supply, demand-side operations and resources, retail market planning, asset and infrastructure planning, finance, and organization / business process design. Scott specializes in energy and utilities and is very active in sustainability, climate change management, energy business planning, and utility operations incorporating emerging supply / grid infrastructure technologies. In 1996, he founded NorthStar Concepts Inc., an independent management consulting practice serving energy, utilities, and technology clients for 10 years. Prior to NorthStar, Scott was a core member of ScottMadden’s strategic planning practice for six years and served as an officer in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Europe, he served with nuclear weapons units and both US and West German engineer units. He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. As a cadet at VMI, Scott earned the Engineer in Training (EIT) registration and the U.S. Army Airborne qualification.

  • Developed strategies and business plans for SmartEnergy, CleanTech, and Smart Grid technologies that enable emerging market-side efficiencies, resources, and renewables into energy business and operating models
  • Developed strategic and business plans for multiple energy utilities. Included market/customer, generation, infrastructure (including Smart Grid, CleanTech, and SmartEnergy), operations, regulatory/legislative, capital, employee initiatives, and performance metrics. Facilitated management, executive, and board planning sessions
  • Completed various regional energy market/business opportunity assessments and economic impact analyses
  • Developed “needs-based” C&I segmentations and end-use energy programs. Included customer knowledge, key decision drivers, influencer/channel management, offerings, financial impacts, “best practices,” etc.
  • Established utility IP group managing $10+ million development portfolio; conducted licensing negotiations
